Throughout your life, you’ve been told a number of things by your family, which turns out wasn’t entirely accurate. When it comes to grooming rituals that make you look best, we at MensXP take them rather seriously.
So, in order to set the record straight, we bust 7 grooming myths.
1) Shaving Against the Grain will Give you Closer Shave
Yes, only if you want to damage your hair follicles and give yourself a nasty case of razor burn, consider shaving against the grain. Otherwise, to give yourself a clean finish sans the discomfort, shave along with the direction of the hair with short strokes.
2) Stress Causes Grey Hair
This one is debatable and differs from person to person. Several studies have shown that stress triggers free radicals, which influence the production or promote bleaching of melanin, the pigment for hair colour. Having said that, going grey won’t happen overnight and if such speculations are in fact true, it’s only accelerating an inevitable process!
3) Eating Chocolate Leads to Breakouts
Zits are caused by a number of factors - stress, hormones, genetics, but eating chocolate is definitely not one of them. So, go ahead and dive into that chocolate bar. But, don’t go overboard, it won’t give you breakouts, but you can still get fat.
4) Toothpaste Cures Zits
We think this must have been definitely devised by someone working for Pepsodent or Colgate, because the truth is - toothpaste doesn’t cure zits, or even aids the healing process. It does not contain ingredients that can dry out the spots; however, these very ingredients can cause unsightly irritation or redness that certainly doesn’t improve matters.
5) More the Shaving Cream, Better the Shave
When it comes to shaving cream, less is more! Smothering yourself with shaving cream will only leave you with dry skin and an empty shaving cream bottle sooner than you’d expected. The key lies in finding a product that effectively lathers and creates a single, uniform layer of protection from the blade.
6) Moisturisers will Make Oily Skin Oilier
If you’ve got oily skin that becomes an oil spill by the afternoon then the last thing you want to be doing is using moisturiser, right? Wrong! Moisturisers help to keep the surface of your skin supple and hydrated, and will certainly not add to your oily skin woes.
7) Brush your Teeth After Every Meal
Although your intention is nothing but the best, cleaning your teeth after every meal, more so after consuming acidic foods and drinks will result in the erosion of the enamel. Next time, wait for at least 30-40 minutes before you consider brushing your teeth.
