Top 5 ways to a de-cluttered kitchen

Ismat Tahseen, TNN

One of the busiest rooms, the kitchen needs to be kept clean and tidy each day. Here's how...

The kitchen is one of the most significant rooms in a home, where you spend time cooking possibly three or more meals a day. It's thus crucial to keep it clutter-free and well-organised, so as to be able to handle the stress that can accompany cooking. Here are some tips on maintaining a neat kitchen...

Unused? Say goodbye!
Most kitchens end up storing larger bowls, and gadgets that are bought from trips abroad and rarely used. They take up valuable cabinet space, so if you don't find yourself using them for over a year, give them away or transfer them to another storage area.

Cut down on multiples
Take stock of your gadgets and be honest to yourself. Do you really need two blenders and four sauce pans? The best way to de-clutter is to get rid of multiples of things as you're just hoarding them.

Reorganise everything
Quite often there is no need to do a major overhaul of the kitchen. All you need is to place your tools etc, in the right space. Store things logically too; sweets can be in one area and snacks in another. It's also a good idea to labels jars and boxes.

Avoid dishes piling up
Don't procrastinate doing the used dishes and allow a pile pile up in the sink; it can be most tiresome to do a whole lot the next day. Wash them as soon as is possible and dry them immediately. If you have company, of course, wait until the party's finishes to get the kitchen gloves on!

Get some help
You can't keep the kitchen clean each day all on your own. Delegate responsibilities in small ways, like by asking other members to rinse out their own dinner plates after a meal, or get someone to mop and dust.
