How New Dads Can Keep Their Weight In Check

By Ipshita Kumar

Becoming a father is perhaps the best feeling in the world. But along with happiness comes these things too: poor health, more responsibility, more stress, less time to exercise, and so on.

What your child definitely doesn’t want to grow up with is an unhealthy parent. It’s difficult to maintain a healthy lifestyle, but it’s not impossible. Therefore, we at MensXP give you tips to keep your calm (and a six-pack) during the most hectic years of your life. Read on:

Keep An Open Mind
The most important thing to do while you’re handling the kid is not to draw your mind into a periphery of restrictions and norms. If you’ve been fretting over not being able to dedicate one hour every day to the gym regime, it will only worsen your situation, leaving you feeling rushed, annoyed and frustrated. You can stop this from happening with the right mindset. Yes, we are talking about breaking rules here! Taking the flight of stairs 10 times a day to tend to your baby’s needs is also part of ‘exercise’. Times have changed; hence, even you need to!

Use Time Wisely
Time is luxury once you have a new member in the family. Burning calories is not limited to hard-hitting crunches and massive weight-lifting activities at the gym. Since time is of the essence once you have a kid, you’re bound to learn to fit your workout around your daily activities. Do 20 squats while the milk is warming up for the kiddo. Do 50 pushups before the water gets hot in the shower. Remember that there’s no time to waste, and if you remember this golden rule, you’ll be shocked to see how efficiently you are able to maintain a healthy lifestyle without changing your schedule one bit.

Break All Rules
But keep one rule in mind always: you can turn parental chores into muscle builders. Giving your kid a sponge bath make you burn some calories too. Catch up on sleep in the least expected hours, because along with time, even sleep becomes a luxury once you have a kid. You can’t cheat your body for too long, as you need sleep more than ever. Another useful tip: perform lunges as you burp your kid. The lunges with a few extra kilos of body weight will be good for your core.

Kill Fat With Food
Do NOT ever think that you can eat what your kid eats. Kids are calorie incinerators at their young ages, and hence, they can manage pretty well with extra chocolate. You, unfortunately, cannot. We know with a baby in the house, shortcuts seem the way to go. Cook one day in bulk and keep eating that for the next few days. Or order pizzas and keep ordering some more for as long as is feasible. Guess what? That’s what will cause you the maximum harm. Try and avoid as much of the leftovers as you can. Having a kid isn't an excuse to eat like a college guy again. Avoid fried foods, white carbs, etc. Leave the desserts for the weekend.
