10 Alternative Uses of Vodka

By Samreen Samad, Team iDiva

This party season, we're sure there's going to be a lot of vodka flowing around you. So, if you have some leftovers from your previous night, don't just chuck it away yet! We give you 10 alternative uses of this multi-purpose spirit.

Clean jewellery: Has your imitation jewellery oxidised? Don't bother spending money on jewellery cleaners, not when you can use some vodka to make it shine like brand new! Just pour a little vodka on a cotton ball and gently rub it on your jewellery and watch it dazzle again.

Preserve flowers: Flowers add colour and style to your home. If you want to make them last longer, then just add a few drops of vodka and a teaspoon of sugar to the water in your flower vase.

Insect repellent: Keep away the creepy crawlies from your house by squirting a little vodka from your home. Fill a spray bottle with vodka and use it to clean your kitchen counters and corners of your house and watch all the roaches and ants flee!

Face cleanser: If the previous night has made you look miserable in the morning, use the same vodka to clean your pores! Vodka has astringent properties which help in removing excess oil from skin and tightens pores.

Get shiny hair: Vodka can not only make people look good, but, it can *make* people look good. Add a shot of vodka to a 350ml bottle of shampoo to get shiny and sleek hair. Make sure you rinse your hair properly before heading out unless you want to smell boozy!

Freshen laundry: Get laundry-fresh clothes at home by simply mixing a little vodka in the soap solution while washing your clothes. Dry them in a well-ventilated place and you have fresh and nice smelling laundry! To be on a safe side, do a spot test.

Ease toothache: No, we're not suggesting you get sloshed on vodka to not feel any pain! But, when sudden toothache strikes and you can’t see a dentist, vodka can be your doctor-on-the-go. Vodka is a great disinfectant and can numb the pain in your gums. Try swishing a shot of vodka on the affected area for instant relief.

Shine fixtures: Use vodka to clean the grease and grime off fixtures in your house. You can also use vodka to clean chrome, glass and porcelain.

Clean a wound: If you're running short of sterile pads or a disinfectant, use vodka to clean wounds. In case you didn't know, sterile pads and other disinfectants contain vodka as an ingredient.

Cure foot odour: Say goodbye to smelly feet by washing them in vodka. Vodka kills bacteria which causes odour and infection.
