Coughing Congestion Home Remedies

What is coughing congestion?
Coughing usually occurs when there is any sort of irritation in the lungs, respiratory tract or throat. Cough is of two types, namely, dry and congested. Dry cough is raspy, is due to irritation and does not bring up phlegm. Congested cough, on the other hand, usually accompanies a cold ans stuffy nose. It can be treated with home remedies like garlic and green tea.

Simple natural remedies like honey and inhalation of steam can effectively treat cough and congestion without any side effects on the body.

·         Garlic: You can boil a few fresh cloves of garlic in water. Strain this water to remove the garlic and have this water. It helps clear congestion and give relief
·         Ginger root and wine: You can cook the ginger root in wine, strain and store this mixture. You can have a few spoons of this mixture everyday till congestion and cough gets better
·         Honey and lemon grass juice: Mix both of these in equal quantities and have a small quantity of this mixture daily. Make sure that the honey and the juice are both fresh
·         Green tea: Hot green tea as well as other herbal teas can be had piping hot everyday. These are healthier than normal teas and can be had daily till congestion gets better. They give instant relief from coughing
·         Honey and black or white pepper: You can mix a spoon of organic honey with a pinch of white or black pepper. This can be consumed as it is immediately. This will soothe the throat and relieve cough
·         Honey and fresh lemon juice: Take equal quantities of both, about a spoon each and mix well. Have this mixture orally. This helps soothe the throat, relieve coughing and clear congestion

Diet for coughing congestion
You should have a healthy and balanced diet to keep your immune system healthy and help your body fight the infection better. Consuming foods like horse-radish, chili peppers as well as other spicy foods is beneficial as they help clear the congestion and open up mucous glands. You should also have vitamins, especially Vitamins A, C and E to stimulate the immune system. Having honey daily can also help cough.

Causes of coughing congestion
The most common causes are viral flu, cold, bronchitis and asthma. Smoking, pollution and dust can also trigger or worsen the condition.
